As we have reported previously on our blog, Mission Squash is an organization with a mission to help children from low-income families stay in school, graduate and aspire to college, while at the same time improving their health and fitness through the game of squash.
"Empower them to make a better future for themselves."
Mission Squash recently celebrated the grand opening of the Mission Squash Hogg Courts at James S. Hogg Middle School. (Houston, Tx area) In a thank you letter to the many donors to the program, including the Hansa Meyer Companies, the Mission Squash leadership thanked everyone and the school for their support of this very important project. ..."Without you, we could never have built this beautiful new facility. We now have 3 state-of-the-art squash courts because of you.."
Three Pillars of Success
Academic Enrichment: Academic and professional success are prime tenets of Mission Squash. We guarantee our students a minimum of 100 hours of tutoring, mentoring, college preparation, and financial education (provided by Amegy Bank) to ensure victory at all stages of life.
Athletics and Health: Students spend more than 100 hours each year learning the game of squash—this is the "hook" that keeps kids engaged in our program. We impart to our members the focus and determination crucial to the game, as well as inspiring good sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle. We also provide healthy snacks and nutritional education.
Community Outreach: We are committed to engagement with our community, and Mission Squash members give back to their city through 10 hours of community service per year. Our students participate in projects such as the Bayou Bash (cleaning and maintaining a stretch of bayou) and early reading programs to inner city kids. We instill an indelible sense of community that builds in our students a respect for duty and neighborly goodwill.

Participation
In the fall of 2015, Mission Squash will begin offering in-school P.E. courses for the students at Hogg. With this new program, Hogg will become the FIRST PUBLIC SCHOOL in the U.S. to offer squash as a P.E. credit!
